GUIDE

Talk to strangers online, together in a room

Hello Stranger is a home for live rooms. Pick a room, take a seat on the stage or in the listener area, and join a conversation with other adults who are online right now.

How it works

You don't need an account. Choose an avatar (and a display name if you are a guest), then tap Quick join or pick a room by topic. The stage holds up to 15 speakers and the listener area up to 15 more. You start on the stage; if it is full, you listen until a spot opens. Accounts are optional and keep your name, avatar and any moderator role on every device.

Talk, listen or play

Switch your microphone on when you have something to say, step down to listen, or just follow the chat. Send emoji reactions, swipe a message to reply, and join Truth or Dare, Scribble or Ludo when the owner or a moderator starts a game. Your browser asks for microphone or camera access only when you turn it on.

Meeting strangers responsibly

Most people are friendly, but anyone can be in a room. Don't share your full name, address, school, workplace, financial details or passwords. You can report anyone from their profile card. Read our safety tips before your first room.

Rooms are looked after

The owner, plus moderators and Ops appointed for each room, keep conversations friendly. Moderators can mute people for a set time, move them to the listeners, remove them or ban them. Ops can mute for up to 10 minutes and remove people.
